The FDC1 Armchair is an unusual piece which remains very modern. Recognized today as one of the precursors in Brazilian modern architecture, de Carvalho believed interior design was as important as architecture. This piece was designed for one of his most celebrated projects, the Capuava ranch in 1939. The shape of the chair is iconic with its graphic and sculptural qualities, suggesting both tribal art and sadomasochism. Le Corbusier considered the designer a "romantic revolutionary".
