Connections Across Time:

EISLER & ARNOULT

Two pioneering European émigrés helped shape the future of Brazilian modern design through radically different visions of furniture, production, and modern living.

Presented for the first time in the United States, Connections Across Time: Martin Eisler & Michel Arnoult brings together rare historical works and newly produced re-editions that trace the evolution of Brazilian modernism through two parallel approaches. While Martin Eisler pursued refinement through materiality, proportion, and sculptural form, Michel Arnoult reimagined furniture through systems of accessibility, modularity, and industrial production.

Together, their work reveals a defining moment in Brazil’s cultural and industrial development, when migration, architecture, craftsmanship, and modern life converged to produce a new design language. Through seating, tables, and collectible works, the exhibition explores the productive tension between object and system, elegance and efficiency, authorship and accessibility.

Installed within the lower level of ESPASSO’s Tribeca gallery, the exhibition situates these historic works within a contemporary framework, highlighting their continued relevance to how we live, produce, and inhabit space today.
