The exhibition Album of new works by Brazilian artist Vik Muniz opened this past Thursday, April 10th, at Sikkema Jenkins & CO, NY. Continuing his technique of constructing images out of the sum of (or pieces of) multiple objects – notably his famous sugar portraits, or his recomposition of art masterpieces with trash – here Muniz takes a nostalgic approach as the piecemeal of rearranged bits and pieces of old, yellowed photographs, documents, letters, postcards and other sentimental ephemera renders photo album staples as a portrait of a bride and groom and of children in a classroom.
