On December 7th, ESPASSO celebrated 50 years of Atelier Ricardo Fasanello with a special talk and brunch during Art Basel/Design Miami. The event coincided with ESPASSO’s most comprehensive collection of Ricardo Fasanello works to date, and the launch of a new fiberglass “Sand” finish developed by the Atelier only for ESPASSO.
Encompassing 13 groundbreaking designs, the collection also includes a selection of iconic works introduced in a stunning new fiberglass “Sand” finish that has been developed exclusively for ESPASSO: the “Esfera” lounge chair, “Gaivota 60’s” lounge chair, and “Anel 60’s” dining chair and lounge chair. Also on display in the showroom and available through ESPASSO are the “Anel 80s” chair and dining chair, “Anel” executive chair, “Ciranda” side tables available in multiple sizes, “Arcos” coffee table, and a 3-seat Fardos sofa.
The launching event featured a talk from Andrea Fasanello, Ricardo’s daughter, followed by a panel discussion moderated by esteemed design writer Ian Volner. Panel participants also included Allen Saunders, celebrated Miami-based interior designer and Christian Larsen, MET Museum curator and historian.
“We have been celebrating Atelier Ricardo Fasanello since the day we opened. No other body of work equals Fasanello’s continuous experimentation and innovation. He pushed the boundaries of materiality, aesthetics, and comfort,” said Carlos Junqueira. “We are thrilled to commemorate this important milestone for Atelier Ricardo Fasanello and excite collectors with a new finish for three of his most iconic works.”
“I want people who don’t know him to come in and really be amazed. Not using wood makes Ricardo quite different, but when you see these pieces, you understand how the curves and the leather—all the details— relate and complement the whole story of Brazilian design.”
The exhibition will be open from December 10-21, 2018 at ESPASSO Miami.
