This past Tuesday ESPASSO hosted an effervescent vernissage to launch the newly re-edited furniture pieces from two Brazilian modernist design and architecture masters: Oscar Niemeyer and Jorge Zalszupin. The exhibition titled Compasso also saw the launch of a monograph, the first comprehensive publication on the career and works of Zalszupin, written by professor and scholar Maria Cecilia Loschiavo dos Santos, who signed copies of the book during the opening. In attendance were also Niemeyer’s great-grandson Carlos Ricardo Niemeyer, Zalszupin’s daughter and grand-daughter Veronica and Olimpia Zalsuzpin and the fashionable mother-daughter duo Etel and Lissa Carmona, principals of Etel Interiores, the highy-esteemed São Paulo-based ateliers responsible for the reissues of both exhibited lines. Compasso will be on view through June 3rd, and was made possible in partnership between ESPASSO and Etel Interiores, Fundação Oscar Niemeyer, In Plus Interior Design and Natura, Brazil’s number 1 cosmetics manufacturer, who developed the home scent Downtown Driftwood especially for the occasion.
