ESPASSO is pleased to team up with Art Los Angeles Contemporary 2013, in providing unique furniture pieces for the fair’s VIP lounge and Café by LA-based artist and designer Taidgh O’Neill and renowned Brazilian architect and designer Carlos Motta.
Art Los Angeles Contemporary, now in its fourth year, has been rapidly growing as the International Contemporary Art fair of the West Coast, presenting 70 top international blue chip and emerging galleries from around the world in the 40,000 square feet exhibition venue at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.
Within this vibrant context, the fair’s VIP lounge will feature Motta’s signature, award-winning ‘Asturias’ armchairs, for the first time manufactured in California exclusively for ESPASSO - made from reclaimed Redwood, paired up with O’Neill’s hand- crafted ‘Venice’ armchairs and ‘Florence’ sofa, designed specially for the event. The fair’s Café will include O’Neill’s beautifully crafted and playful ‘Highland Park’ dining tables and chairs, along with his ‘Vernon’ benches.
Highlighted in both Motta’s and O’Neill’s pieces at the fair is a sophisticated relaxed aesthetic that favors comfort and simplicity and utilizes sustainable materials and modes of production as a nod to the Californian lifestyle. As Motta resided in Santa Cruz in the beginning of his career, where he perfected both his woodwork and surfing, the California Redwood ‘Asturias’ line is a natural extension of his practice. O’Neill is inspired by the fractured urban landscape of Los Angeles, taking cues especially from un-permitted residential renovation and do-it-yourself engineering that often characterizes LA.
